Marquees ~ Twinkling Again

A little over a year ago,
 I made a hard decision.
Due to lack of space, I stopped creating marquee signs.

But new design concepts kept popping up
and continual requests from you
had me realize that I am not done.

When something persistently knocks on your heart
you have to answer it, right ?

So today, I am moving into a new studio space
so I can return to my inner twinkle !

1st up ?  A giant champagne bottle

Toilet Paper Art & Einstein

Can you see what this white and lovely art is made from ?

Look a little closer

Yes, that's right, it's just plain and lowly toilet paper !
Made by turkish artist Sakir Gökcebag

A contrast that leaves me inspired
to challenge myself
to re evaluate and elevate
how I see ordinary things
In other words ... find and create your OWN beauty

Albert Einstein, a big proponent of creative play says it best ~

“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world"

Wishing you all an extra~ordinary day full of discovery

Blue Velvet Crush

What is it with blue velvet that is so beguiling ?

It is showing up everywhere this season
and I admit I have a bit of a crush.

Moody and mysterious ... it sets the stage so perfectly for October

Will you be adding a little
to your home or wardrobe this Fall ?

A Vintage Wedding Gown Get's Prom-Ready

My daughter was asked to the prom ( last week ! )
and she wanted a vintage prom dress
I work well under pressure but ...
I had my doubts we could pull something off this last minute

We pushed up our sleeves put on our foolish optomism hats
and headed out to the antique stores.
Low and behold ( cue the angels )

we scored a GORGEOUS 1950's wedding gown at a shop called Gypsies.
It fit like a dream, was in pristine condition
and best of all ?  It was only 65.00 !
Before ...

After ...

Here's how we did it:

We 1st removed the old sleeves & purchased some white tulle
for the new straps. ( yes, you CAN dye tulle ! )

Saving the old sleeves to experiment with the dye,
we made the perfect shade of vintage robins egg blue using
regular liquid Aquamarine, Teal and Tan RIT dyes.

Using 2 xtra large Rubbermaid containers
one was filled with water
and the other with a tepid dye mixture
( we started the dye bath by diluting all the colors
in hot water 1st and then mixing and stirring it in well with cool water )

We dipped the dress in the clean water
pulled it out and carefully shook out the excess water ( never wring )

then dipped the dress and tulle in the dye bath swishing it around
with a big plastic spoon to ensure even coloring.
The longer you leave it in the darker it gets.
When you're happy with the color just put it back in the clean water,
swish it around and add more water till the rinse water is clear.

We hung it on a hanger with strong plastic clips ( metal can rust )
and let it dry in the sun.

Sewed the armholes, added the new dyed tulle straps,
cut and hemmed the length

... and voila !  A happy girl in a pretty dress !

White Lace And Promises

Clean crisp white lace seems so fitting, fresh and feminine
as we enter into a brand new week and brand new season.

Nothing brings on the feeling of promise and possibility quite like white does.

A little something from Marrakech, make up artist Pat McGrath & Louis Vuitton ...

So Inspired ~ Cake Opera Co

It's a good thing I don't know how many countless "moments"
( which sounds better than hours or days )
I have spent pinning cake pictures on Pinterest.  I'm addicted people !
( those that don't eat, pin perhaps )

But the breathtaking creations of Alexandra Pellegrino & Jessica Smith ?

Well, they ... take the you-know-what !

Meet the masterminds of
The Cake Opera Co

I stumbled upon these ridiculously meticulous works of art this morning
and it was too good of a feast for just my eyes ~ I had to share.
It's hard to believe they are cake !

Many of the towering confections are made of macaroons ( that's SO french, no ? )

~ Hope you enjoyed ~
Sweet dreams to you !

Soulful Elegance In Austin ... My Dream Home Tour

Remember this ?
About a year ago when posting about my move to Austin,
I used this picture as a representation of what I imagined
a dreamy slice of Austin life to look like ...

No idea where in Austin this place was, or honestly if was even a home.
But the contrast of the industrial looking exterior
and teasing glimpse of chandeliered opulance behind the sliding barn door
was enough for me to do some big time swooning.

But little did I know, that was just the beginning -
By pure happenstance, I just recently stumbled on the property and found out
not only is it downtown, it IS a home with a retail space
it's for sale
( just 4 million + )
and has a history.

Keep scrolling ... wait til you see the inside !

The building dates back to 1890 and was formerly the
Protection Hook and Ladder Company No. 3,
prior to becoming the legendary Capitol Saddlery.

Here's the retail space ...
( oh, how I would love to open a Lisa Golightly brick and morter shop here ! )

just a short commute up the original freight elevator and you're home

Ready for the tour ?

The living room ...

The kitchen ...

Imagine washing the dishes with a clear view of all the state capital happenings

The master bath and bedroom ...

office ...
( gotta pay that massive mortgage payment somewhere ! )

now THIS is a mudroom ! ...

entertainment area ...

Maybe this home isn't everyone's cup of tea
but it's soulful venetian elegance
resonates so much to me.

Until I can figure out what I could sell on Ebay for 4 million,

I am left to my dreams
( and that's not a bad place to be )

Ciao !

XO
