Good Reflections With Michel de Broin

Something big I have just learned is that sometimes

it takes a bad thing to help you to see the good things better

A time for me to get busy dwelling in the goodness 
from yesterday to today

To meditate and celebrate all that brings joy

I know, I know, this sounds so Pollyanna ... but it's true !

I need a word for this .... how about

 happitation ?

Everything good in the world is worth celebrating, no ?

Enter french artist  Michel de Broin 

( leave it to the french ! )
His work takes me to such
a happy and inspired place


Here's an example

Imagine making the worlds largest disco ball

and hanging it over Paris

Oh yes he did !

By hanging the 1,000 piece mirrored sphere 50 meters up, 

using a giant crane, and projecting light onto it, he managed to 
light up Paris on a cold winter night.

The ball was hung up in the Jardin de Luxumburg and the light effects that covered the city were more than worth all of the effort of this art installation

I'm not an Irish girl
but I used to play one on March 17th

then
everything changed 16 yrs ago.

 Something new and life changing came along 
 because 

my beautiful daughter 

Courtney was born


~ and now I celebrate all the time ~

In her life this girl that has taught me things I never knew a daughter could


things like
Patience
kindness
~ DETERMINATION ~
& myself

Maybe because before the age of 2 she had undergone heart surgery - twice 
despite Doctors' predictions that she wouldn't survive
she pulled through amazingly


Now


she dances, sings, creates, runs
an unwaivering hot yoga partner,  
our very own in-house pastry chef 
( baking almost every day - thank God we have yoga )
an invaluable helper here at the house of Golightly
... the list goes on


A real life miracle 
.....................
& 
now
she dreams of Paris

and  taking it upon herself 

to try to earn and save every penny for a trip next year with her class

Selfless, caring and ( almost ) ready to fly

A Small Celebration

The print collection has finally launched and is currently making it's debut at
The Atlanta Show


Even though the whole process has been a grand test of patience
it was a wonderful thrill at every step
( isn't that when you know you're doing what you love ? )

I have not seen them as the final product
but I'm told that they will be
frame-less and have deep black laquered sides.
( kind of box-esque )


Really, to do this right,
I should have had
my new web site for the art up and running
before posting this
but you guys ... I couldn't wait !

After a very hectic past few weeks of travel and shows, I treated myself to a movie last night. Wow ... you simply must see this movie. Very touching, tender, funny and most of all breathtakingly beautiful

As you can see the movie ad poster, it was inspired by
the original Rene Gruau print ...

( but in VALENTINO RED of course ! )

Rene Gruau

I have to say, one of the artists that has most inspired me is renowned french fashion illustrator, René Gruau. With nothing more than pens, brushes and paint, his work embodies the feminine universe - one made of luxury, frivolity and glamour - as if it was the most natural thing in the world.His drawings and watercolors captured chicness and grace 50s-60s era women sought in a way photography could not. Rene is most known for his influences and work for friend Christian Dior, where he really made his name, but has done countless pieces (over 80,000 total !) for other designers such as Arden, Balmain, Lanvin, and, his favorite, Balenciaga. Among many french based companies, he has illustrated for Rouge Baiser, Lido, Moulin Rouge, magazines such as Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, even the movie poster for Fellini's La Dolce Vita.

It amazes me how he could capture every nuance of luxury and refinement with such simplicity and perfect purity of line. No matter what the era of his creation, it seems all are just as relevant today.
