Channeling Sophia

And for your listening enjoyment this is An Evening in Roma by Dean Martin

Ciao Bella !!!

A woman's dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose
without obstructing the view.
Sophia Loren

Just love how Miss Loren's style continues to carry over
into fashion to this day...

O Cherry Blossom Girl !

Do you know Alix aka The Cherry Blossom Girl ?

Her posts are so gorgeous !
And how do they appeal to that
young well heeled Parisian girl living inside of me.

Don't we all have one ?

She pulls together
THE most adorable outfits
( and now designers are giving them to her )
then grabs some equally adorable tres chic friends and does
photo shoots using The City of Light as her backdrop
Sounds SO fun - no ?

Loving her latest post

You must run over to her blog for all of that  CBG goodness
there is so much more to see !

Do you think Bravo would go to Paris ?

Advanced Style

It's not what you can't do that I am interested in hearing
it's what you CAN do

So when I run across something as inspiring as Ari Seth Cohen's blog,
Advanced Style
I have to share it

Ari, 28, roams the streets looking for New York's most stylish and creative older folks.

get ready for some inspiring senior moments !

"Respect your elders
and let these ladies and gents
teach you a thing or two
about living life to the fullest"

Off the streets, he  takes his readers into their homes for a more personal view ...

and features wonderful video clips such as this one on style icon
Iris Apfel

( don't forget to pause blog music )

What direction will your personal style
go as you advance through life ???

Thank you so much for what you do Ari

Between what has seemed like an infinite amount of rain here in
No California
and the
magicale imagery of
underwater photographer Zena Holloway
I have found myself
swimming in an ocean of dreams

a MOMAtherapy

Beneath the fog and under a huge glass ceiling,
such magic awaits ...

Why do I love getting lost in SFMOMA ?
Because that is exactly what happens

... I get so wonderfully lost.

Schedules and responsibilities
just disappear
( at least for a little while )
And I am free to explore all the surprises inside.
Beautiful and often
unconventional inspiration
at every turn
on every floor.

( now if they would only let me roller skate in there)

Suzy Parker in Dior and Robin Tattersall at Place de la Concorde, Paris, Aug 1959

Too much goodness to squeeze into
one posting, I'm going to spread this out into at least 3 courses.

Today I'd like to share what's on the 4th floor ...

A celebration of photographer
R
ichard Avedon

Photographing Sophia New York, 1966

Featuring more than 200 photographs
along with a selection of vintage magazines,
this exhibition presents work spanning Avedon's entire career,
from his earliest street scenes
and breakthrough 1950s Paris fashion pictures
to the haunting portraits of celebrities and non celebrities

Marella Agnelli 1953 (Sold at Christies last year for $85,000)

His time in Paris was the inspiration for the movie Funny Face
starring Gene Kelly and Audrey Hepburn

Dorian Leigh, Paris studio 1949

Dorian Leigh in Piguet evening dress, Paris Aug 1949

Dovima, Van Cleef & Arpels pearls, New York 1953

Dovima in a Dior evening dress, Paris, Aug 1955

Shocking to even the french, a scandelous story of Suzy and Mike gallavanting in Paris through Avedon's eyes in the 60's

Did you know models Dorian Leigh and Suzy Parker were sisters ?

Dorian had quite a legendary social and love life.
She was close friends with Truman Capote
and some say she was his inspiration for his
charactor Holly Golightly in
Breakfast at Tiffany's

I never knew that, did you ?

This stunning exhibit just blew me away

Twiggy 1968

Until we meet again ...
Au Revoir , Mon Amour

If you love fashion are in the bay area before Nov 29th,
this is a must see !

Glove Love

Maybe it's because I am heading into SF today and I am thinking about my Fall/Winter wardrobe,
or my excite
ment for new upcoming season of Madmen.
I'm thinking about gloves.
This time purely as an accessory, not so much for warmth
(however I'll n
eed it today !)

Karl Lagerfeld and many other designers showed a huge variety of gloves in the Fall 09 shows
... l
ots of leather, suede, fingerless, etc. Maybe this will carry over into Spring and we will see more
little white gloves

for d
aytime ?
( my gloved little fingers are crossed
)

Too difficult to use your cell phone ?
Want to feel like a bond girl ?

Karl has soMething for you
...

Won't you join
me ?

Now go forth and be gloved !
