Weekend Of The Century

... inspired by Truman Capote's "Black and White Ball" held at the Plaza Hotel in NY
after the debut of his best selling novel released in 1958
Breakfast At Tiffany's

Many of the NY socialites close to him
were abuzz
thinking possibly it could be one of them that was the muse for his character
Holly Golightly

and at that time,
he held this delightfully  frivolous black and white masquerade ball

and it was called

The Party Of The Century

hmmmm
that veiled and beflowered looking headpiece is giving me ideas

this book has the full story
( has anyone read this ? )

Tallulah Bankhead ...

Sinatra and Farrow ...

Truman Capote himself ...

Here's to a lovely weekend
full of
frivolous celebration !!!

Cheers,
lisa

classic post as always, Lisa. would be cool to have another social season like that again. in terms of style, our generation is sorely lacking that elan! about the only thing that comes close today is the Oscars. still, as cool as they all look, i'd be much more assured of having a stimulating conversation with my brothers and friends in a backyard with a beer in hand than if I were holding the clutch of my date there in NY with Truman waiting for her to return from the ladies room, trying to talk with some elitist snob whose kids attend "wonderblah academy" and who themselves went an Ivy League institution.

Jg., I do agree and still wish I could go back for at least one day and experience a time where people had manners, carried themselves well and dressed UP. Bores like Madge Wildewood or others who are too caught up in themselves obviously are not invited to this dream of mine. ;)

Happy weekend to both you Jg. and Janis !

I wish our society still had such gatherings! I am currently planning a bridal shower for my dear friend and I'm having all the attendees wear fancy hats...a ladies gathering! Lovely post.

Truman-love his way of entertaining! I fuss about this constantly to family and friends how our society severely lacks the manners and style once displayed in the good old days.
I think that is why I constantly say the glamor and grandeur as I once knew it no longer endures.
It is sad to think that way but I do, it is such a shame really. Lovely informative post Lisa, carry on my friend! :-)

I haven't seen or read the book, it looks neat though! I agree with Jg. - it would be so neat if society still cared about manners and dressed up for at least the right occasions!
