Greetings From The Big Top !

song pairing : Roustabout by Beats Antique

Well if my lack of posts was any indication
it's been, I have to say
looking a little like this
around here the last week ...

Circus Scene painting by Alexander "Sandy" Calder
( an anniversary gift to his sister in 1926 )

Isn't this a wonderful painting ?
Ever since I saw it in person in NY
it has remained my all time
favorite
( This picture doesn't do it justice ... it's huge in person ! )

Maybe it reminds me of our life a little
( crazy yes, but there's always music at least one person smiling ! )

Well today and tomorrow...
the clowns are gone & the elephants have cleared
and I am regrouping the house and returning it to 'normal'

whatever that is !

And since I've been thinking about this painting,
I'm kind of circus inspired
...
I found this site called unearthed
and fell in love with these antique circus items !
.........

What a cool side table this circus stand would make ...

this costume would be so fun hanging somewhere too ...

or how about this carnival wheel ?

these juggling pins ...

or these carnival pins and balls ?

What fun !

Oh dear
I'm getting some ideas ....
I'd love to redo some things around here
* Whoa Nelly !*
1st things 1st
I have to clear the rings and get ready
for another week of 'performing' !
( am I the only one who feels this way ? )

and  a  5  6  7  8  ...

So what are your plans

Are you sitting back and enjoying
the show

or performing amazing feats of
skill and bravery ?

All in All
I hope it is a
most spectacular weekend !!!

See you again this week !

Lynn, if I owned this painting, I wouldn't have to work any longer ! I would like to make a reproduction for myself however. The original is 70" x 84" and currently hangs at the Berkeley Art Museum ! It was part of an exhibit at MOMA NY 2 years ago when I saw it. Do a Google image search on Alexander Calder ... when he lived in Paris in the 20's he made all kinds of circus related pieces ... you would LOVE them !

correction ... I meant to say it was at the Whitney Museum of Art.

Very cool...you create the best posts! My life has certainly been like a circus, with the end of the school year shenanigans....days and hours until life consists of which bathing suit (agghhhh!!!) to lounge by the pool in!
Have a great week,
Nathalie
hey whatever happened to your mirror art that you were doing? I loved it...

i am sort of into the vintage circus look right now too! I bought a little dress for sale in my etsy that looks like an old striped circus curtain fabric and the cute is very fun so I called it the "trapeze dress" :-D

PS i am having dreams lately of being the proud owner of the chanel marquis wall lighting...*sigh**** **swooonnnn****

I'm sure you must've KNOWN that I'd LOVE this post, Lisa! It's awesome!

That first circus painting would be wonderful to see in person, so as to experience the full power of its "actual size". And thank you for the linkback(?) to Pop Circus underneath Dadadreams' The Normals collage! That was very polite. You get a gold star.

I MUST check out the site that sells circus-y things... (I hope it's affordable. Ha, ha!)
