Soaking It In

This morning's walk in the warm Austin sun and slight sunburn on my shoulders
remind me of this sublime painting by Michael Carson

( who is quickly becoming one of my favorite contemporary artists )

"Girl On Black Towel"

Whatever the weather wherever you are
I hope you are soaking in something beautiful this weekend !

How about Richard Avedon's haunting portrait,
"The Beekeeper"

does it make you jonesy for the "beekeeper petit-four" ?

Both great days filled with
Free hee heeeezing dark mornings

massive amounts of coffee

old friends

Beautiful

I really wish I took more pictures but here are just a few ...

freshly painted "vintage" portraits & decoupaged trays ...

repurposed ashtrays into ring dishes, doggie bowls ...
ribbons and loving cups from the early 1900's - the 1960's

well ... I totally addicted
and am creating and gathering like mad for the

Nov 1st Alameda

This time I'll be more prepared for a more stylish 4am entrance ? ((yeah right !))

A Small Celebration

The print collection has finally launched and is currently making it's debut at
The Atlanta Show

Even though the whole process has been a grand test of patience
it was a wonderful thrill at every step
( isn't that when you know you're doing what you love ? )

I have not seen them as the final product
but I'm told that they will be
frame-less and have deep black laquered sides.
( kind of box-esque )

Really, to do this right,
I should have had
my new web site for the art up and running
before posting this
but you guys ... I couldn't wait !
I'll create a link here as soon as it's up

In case you were wondering Lisa Vincent is my real name
( our little secret, OK ? )

Plugging Along ...

Lots coming ahead this July at the House of Golightly ...

Some of you know I have signed with a company that will be publishing and sublicensing my artwork for chain stores and online retailers. My 1st collection finally hits the mass market along with a new website this July and will been seen in stores by Fall ! Busy designing a 2nd collection due at the end of July and due out for market in January '10 .
I'm so excited I can barely stand it !
As soon as I have pictures I will be posting here.
( cross my heart and kiss my elbow !)

Also in the beginning of the month, I will be temporarily closing my Etsy shop in order to do some remodeling. The plan is to expand the wholesale collection
and change out the retail inventory.
If you have your eye on something, this is a great time to make a stop at the shop
since many of them will not be available
at a retail level any longer.

Not to worry though , the new shop will reopen in short time with all new Golightly goodness !

A few of the new pillows for the wholesale catalog ...

Rene Gruau

I have to say, one of the artists that has most inspired me is renowned french fashion illustrator, René Gruau. With nothing more than pens, brushes and paint, his work embodies the feminine universe - one made of luxury, frivolity and glamour - as if it was the most natural thing in the world. His drawings and watercolors captured chicness and grace 50s-60s era women sought in a way photography could not. Rene is most known for his influences and work for friend Christian Dior, where he really made his name, but has done countless pieces (over 80,000 total !) for other designers such as Arden, Balmain, Lanvin, and, his favorite, Balenciaga. Among many french based companies, he has illustrated for Rouge Baiser, Lido, Moulin Rouge, magazines such as Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, even the movie poster for Fellini's La Dolce Vita.

... doesn't she remind you of Amelie ?

.

It amazes me how he could capture every nuance of luxury and refinement with such simplicity and perfect purity of line. No matter what the era of his creation, it seems all are just as relevant today.

Thank you Rene for the seventy years of amazingness !
To purchase prints of his work ( plus many other wonderful french prints ) go here

For a cool 1,250.00 you can buy the book here ( 650.00 used )

Here's to OHHH 9 !

Well, the holidays are over and it's a brand new year. Like many of you, I take stock of the past year and think of what I'd like to see for the upcoming one. I decided to set a little goal for myself (I like the word goal better than "resolution" )... to *regularly blog ...you heard right, I said, REGULAR. ! There, it's been thrown out into the universe for all to know that I plan to properly care and feed a blog AND lead a somewhat balanced life ! Too lofty a goal ? Stay tuned and find out. Infinite cheers to all who encourage me ...you know who you are ! *= once a week-ish or something ?
