carnival mirrors from 1900 ...

Martin Mattox

song pairing: Gone With The Wind by Saint Privat

My wise yoga teacher often tells me to
"Be the wind, not the tumbleweed"
But I have to say, when it comes to treasure hunting
roaming around aimlessly through old neighborhoods
like a tumbleweed
is way too much fun.

After a long day of estate and garage sales
I decided to go check out my local Antique Mall
Not sure why ...
I rarely ever buy or go there ...

but the wind just blew me in

So glad because
I discovered an amazing looking space by

Who are these "curators of style" ?

Tim and Linda Arbogast
of Arbogast Design Group in Sacramento

is who

Their style and juxtaposition of curious goods
stopped me in my tracks !

SO in love with this old oil portrait !

of course anything black and white striped stops me in my tracks !

wanted so bad to take this old factory cart with drawers home ...

and this lovely old Venus statue ...

Masters at merchandising
check out this HUGE section of blue lockers !
The big blue starbursty things ?
Old car wash brush sections !

Even the guestbook is cool ...

Thank you so much MM for the visual feast !

I will be blowing in again & again very soon !

Martin Mattox is located in the
Antique Trove, Roseville, California
( about 20 mi north of Sacramento )

Afternoon Flea Market Finds

Today was a gorgeous spring day so I decided to get out this afternoon to Denios,
a local weekend flea market here in the Sacramento area.
Not exactly an antique show
more like a place to get a silk ficus tree, new tube socks,
a fleece Nascar logo blanket and some produce.
But there are garage/estate sale items peppered throughout
and, well, you just never know.
( the fish tacos alone are worth the trip ! )

For spending just like an hour, this was a good day

And look who followed me home .... oh, how could I resist that face ?
Made of cement and almost 3 ft tall
with the perfect amount of erosion and chip factor
this guy made me do a little happy dance
( aww, do I really have to sell him ? )

and the missing foot ... Mr doggie, you're breaking my heart !

I'm not a big wicker fan, but just think of all the cool things you could put in this
this antique"lady's cart" ...

Someone special will love this signed 1955 painting by Abe Nussbaum
She made me smile

I just couldn't leave this sweet gal behind in the flotsam and jetsam.
 The detail is just amazing

We have a good time with the portraits here at the house of Golightly
Whether it's one I've painted or antique, we always have fun naming the subjects
and cooking up some sort of story about them
As for right now she's
Mrs. Shrute ( Dwight's aunt perhaps ? ), a fun loving,
slightly ADD ( takes one to know one )
music teacher
(  if you had your portrait painted, wouldn't you take off your glasses ? )

What kind of person does she look like to you ???

These will be either coming to the website and or The Alameda soon
I have a few more things but I think I'll wait
( gotta keep a little mystery right ? )

Wishing you a wonderful weekend in the sun !

xoxo,
lisa

On With The Shows

Had a blast at both my first Alameda point Show as a vendor and
at last Sunday's semi annual Pleasanton Show.

Both great days filled with
Free hee heeeezing dark mornings

massive amounts of coffee

old friends

and many new cool ones !

Beautiful

I really wish I took more pictures but here are just a few ...

freshly painted "vintage" portraits & decoupaged trays ...

repurposed ashtrays into ring dishes, doggie bowls ...
ribbons and loving cups from the early 1900's - the 1960's

well ... I totally addicted
and am creating and gathering like mad for the

Nov 1st Alameda
( that's right, the day after Halloween ! )

This time I'll be more prepared for a more stylish 4am entrance ? ((yeah right !))

Where o Where

Has Lisa been ?

So sorry everyone for my big vast gap in posts. Had way too much on my plate the last few weeks, and a few things, including blogging had to go on the backburner.

So here I am coming up for a little air, and saying ....

Hi !

and announcing that after Sunday,

I will no longer be
an Alameda vendor virgin

Yes, this Oct 4th will be
my very first
Alameda Antiques and Collectables Show
6am - 3pm at Alameda Point
( I'll be in touch with the exact booth location )

If you are in the Bay Area and love antiques, you already know what this is.
Everyone else, it's one of the best outdoor markets that's held every first Sun of ea month.
Over 800 vendors and it's attended by over 10,000 people !
ok, I'm a little nervous now, you will be gentle won't you ?

Here's a little sneaky peek for you ...

There will be some paintings ...

decoupaged goodies ...

Furniture ...

an antique champagne riddler from France ... horse show ribbons ...
a princess 300 typewriter ... etc etc etc etc etc

Come say hi if you can !
